motor mounts
heys guys, i have a quick question for a buddy of mine. What are some of the symptoms that needing new motor mounts would bring.. is there anything specific to look for that i could take to him to see if he is experiencing the samething? What was your truck doing when u came to conclude it was the motor mounts that needed to be replaced? thx in advance!!

I don't know about when, but I went ahead and purchased some for the new motor I'm getting dropped in. I figured with over 120,000 miles, it would add a little peace of mind. They listed for $90 a piece, but my boy at the parts department got them to me for around $50 a piece.

how to check motormounts
On my '01 HD w/ 8.1L, the driver side mount went bad at 43K. Under heavy load the motor twisted so much that the air intake tube came off the throttle body... the mass air flow sensor couldn't read the air flow and the motor would die back down til the motor met the air flow that was going through the MAFS. It took me half the summer of sled pulling to find the problem.
To check: engine running, hood open, two people (one in seat, one watching engine) put into gear and hold the brake, gradually increasing rpm and watch how much the motor rises. If it comes up more than 1-2" under good load - they're bad. Do the same in Reverse to check the passenger side.
Only available from a dealer from what I found. $90, unless somebody knows of a polyurethane one out there? I kept the old one to modify (bolt together solid) if the new one should fail. The original held for 43k miles, and 9 sled pulls.
