Default Muffler options for 2005 5.3L?

Hey everyone, I've lurked here for awhile and love the amount of information that a guy can dig up in the forums.

I've just replaced my 98 GMC Z71 EC/SB 5.7L with a 2005 Chevy Z71 with the L33 5.3L. My old truck was running a JBA catback with what appears to be a 7" x 18" round glasspack muffler. I liked the sound, but it definitely wasn't noisy enough...or worth the money for the full setup. Since my new truck is very gutless in the noise area, I'm interested in simply throwing on a new muffler and using the stock pipes to hold me over until I can make modifications that would void my warranty.

I've been looking at upgrading to a 5" x 8" x 14" magnflow SS 3" si/so muffler and was wondering how you guys felt about this particular size. I've been reading that the 18's and 22's and how quiet they are but haven't seen anything about the 14. I'm not interested in flowmasters as I don't like the raspy/tinny sound but would still like a well performing muffler that can make sure it's heard.

Also, I've heard people mention the Borla XR-1 Sportsman Race Muffler, and see that they have a very similar size (3 si/so 4.5 x 7.875 x 12). Is there any reason to go with them over the magnaflows?

Since these are all flow through glasspacks, would I be stupid to assume that they would all sound very similar, just with different volumes, and would all performance pretty much the same?

I've gone through about 90 pages of the forums in the last while looking at muffler threads but nothing really answered my questions.

I got a 4x9x14 3in/out. I'm very happy with it, and no it dosen't sound like a glasspack. I love it. i was going to go with the Borla sportsman XR-1 but for some reason decided on Magnaflow.

i have a 5x11x22 magnaflow 3" siso swap and it really isnt very quiet. unless you are gung ho about volume, it is a decent sound and volume cept for a little drone in midrange bout 2000-2500...but that could be from my intake too i dunno

Hahaha, looking for muffler options on Gm forums is never easy....I always get more and more recommendations for other mufflers to look at...thanks for the reponses guys!

My local shop has Aerochambers as well so I'll give them a look. Magnaflows were 150$ CDN there.

When you get on it, it screams. But I feel old now, so I wanted something quied while cruising. It fits the bill, On the interstate, you have to listen for it, and its turned out infront of the rear tiere on a rc. I almost turned it down at a 45, but I'm happy how it is. Quiet. At least till I get on the LOUD petal.
