You might feel a small increase in performance. But it could be just an illusion because of the increase in exhaust noise. I wellded in a direct fit Hooker Aerochamber muffler to my stock exhaust and I think it sounds great! It is not loud at all but has a good sound at wide open throttle. If I had to get another one again and still had stock manifolds and cats, I wouldnt hesitate to get a smaller case Aerochamber. Good luck!!!

It was a 3inch in/out, center, offset. The case was just as long as the stock muffler. The part number is 21722. I wouldnt hesitate to get a smaller muffler, although you will have to add some pipe to make up for the smaller muffler. Here is a pic-Direct Replacement Hooker- Are you going to be installing it yourself?

i will be doing a turn down either before or right after the axle so i wont need any more pipe. I can't weld so i am going to have to pay someone to do that, but i can do the rest (unbolt stock, cut off extra pipe, bolt on turn down tip)

how much louder can i expect a shorter muffler and dumping it to do over yours?

i see i can get an 18" instead of your 22"...i have 2 options, glass pack and chambered...whats the difference? do i want center/center or center/offset...or does it matter?

If you are going to go with a Hooker I would get the Aerochamber. If you want a straight through design, I would pick the Magnaflow. I dont think you will find even a 14 inch case Aerochamber loud with a turndown. As long as you have your cats still in place. Get a center in center out if you doing a turndown. What are the part numbers of the mufflers you are looking at? I am pretty sure Hooker only makes 14 inch and 22 inch cases.

if you are doing 3 inch single entry/3 inch single exit then your best bet is the magnaflow 4x9x18. It wont drone and will be straight in/out. Also move the muffler as far back as you can. This will move the sound more under the bed not the cab.

muffler is like 85 shipped on ebay and will sound great. i have the magnaflow on my tbss with long tubes and dual 3 inch y pipe and it sounds sweet.

Here is the muffler i was talking about
http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=main&id=411

with magnaflows to find out loudness of muffer you do w x h x l

ie the 4x9x14 would be 504 while the 5x8x14 would be 560. You can see the lower number would mean louder. Then they have the 4x9x18 which is 648 while the 5x8x18 is 720. As you can see the 5x8x14 and 4x9x14 would be clsoe in sound. If you want to play it safe get the 4x9x18.

here is a vid of my truk with just the 5x8x18 magnaflow

and here with headers and 3 inch duals to it
