Default mufler placement questions

what would happen if I installed the muffler after the axle? would it increase or decrease back pressure? would it effect my tune? would it get rid of drone?

Aside from having a negative effect on the exhaust tone, I would think that space limitations would also be an issue...just my .02

Can you not put it in front of your current muffler?

just curious, I was thinking about changing the exhaust. the new cam removed the exhaust frap @ 3000 RPM that was driving me crazy. Can I use my borla XR-1 as a resonator? I love the sound of the xr-1 but I can tell a difference in my low end. the aerochamber picked up a little low end, but still had drone on the highway. the flowtech I have one now is to quite at idle, but has better low end than the aerochamber, lol. Just trying to find the ultimate sound without buying a corsa sport, lol. MAybe I should put on some free flow cat's or try a 1 chamber flow.

SLP Loudmouth one series. Great sound, no drone(at least in my truck). On my truck when I had straight pipes, me and a buddy had them done at the same place but on different days. They put the same "y" pipe and used the same size piping, and the tips exited in the same place. My "y" pipe ended up being about a foot closer to the motor than his, and my truck ended up being louder than his. So I think muffler placement does play a part in how it sounds.

You can put it farther back and it will cut out some drone in the cab. If that's really bothering you I would go so another muffler. Also 1 chambers sound fine with cats in place, take the cats out and they sound horrible. I am a big bassani fan since you can have custom built mufflers to your specs for like $150. That's what I've been doing for the last two years. Also you can put a magnaflow resonator in front of a muffler and that will take care of alot. X pipe also helps some.

believe it or not the shape of the t/pipe will change the sound/drone.
i put magnaflow single catback on mine and it droned a bit.
i didn't like the look of the m/flow t/pipe and tip, it hung low and showed a lot of pipe,
so i cut the t/pipe and put a swept back tip and eliminated the last 90 deg bend in the pipe, drone gone.
i don't know the full set up on yours but if you smooth the flow of the t/pipe it makes a
difference
