Question This is a MUTT!

Does anyone know if a nv3500 will hold up to a fairly well built 400 rwhp LT-1? Also, Would it be a good swap into a 1992 ext.swb chevy.

it will hold up but I think you will have the low gearing unless you are pulling a trailer. If I were you I would just swap in a t56. That is my plan.

Default mmmmm...six speed.

A six speed shifter wont line up with the factory hole will it? Besides every time I track one down at a decent price I am a minute late and a dollar short. How low of a gear are we talking?

That trans is for a 1 ton truck so the gears are really low. First is almost a granny gear. They are strong transmissions and are fairly cheap. The bellhousing is the same and they will match up. If you go with the 6 speed in a truck you will have to lower the rear gear as that trans has a double overdrive. so a search on 6 speed swap that will help.

Isnt the nv4500 for 1 tons? I thought the nv3500 was for the v6 and v8 1/2 ton trucks.

The nv3500 is the tranny that came with my truck. I bought the truck with the v6 pulled out and in bags, so I assume that is the original trans. Having a lower final drive is cool. It will leave harder as long as show some love to the rest of the driveline. I am not too familiar with the particulars with the 88-98 trucks. More of a 72-87 and 99-current body styles nut.

the new venture NV3500 is what comes in the 99-04 gm fullsize trucks with a manual trans and either the 4.3L v6 or the 4.8L v8. gm swapped to the tremec TR-3450 in 05-07 and dropped the man. trans option in NNBS 07(99% sure)

the new venture NV4500 is the 5speed that comes in the HD trucks with the 6.0L v8

this is all based on the 99-06 NBS gm trucks, may or may not be applicable to the 88-98 OBS trucks
