Default is my 4.8 really a 5.3?

ok i know this conspiracy is kinda far fetched, but i was looking under my hood today and noticed something strange...

u know how theres that label on the plastic cover that says "4.8 Liters" well mine says that like normal. but then underneath that, theres a small serial number that has 5.3 in it wtf?

u guys with 4.8s, does urs have the same thing?

The block and most of the internals are the same. The only difference between the two is the stroke.

Everything else is the same. And trust me it is hard to find someone that is making one go fast. If you need any help i will be glad to. In a couple of months i will be installing my cam and headers to mine to make it more of a street machine. I will sling it down the track but not really worried about that to much....

Hope i helped you............

Look in the vin number. I think it is the 10th digit or close to that. If you have T is is 5.3 if you have V it is 4.8 I think.

I think its the 8th character in the vin# but that should tell what you have.

Anyhow, you should have not trouble knowing what you have. There is a big difference in low end torque. How did it compare to other 5.3 before you but the 4.10 and other mods?

i trust the VIN# just as much as i trust the labels that say its a 4.8. im talking about something ON the actual engine that says its a 4.8 or 5.3, because they look the same.

sharkg- i test drove a 5.3 and didnt see a huge difference like everyone talks about. people use the expression "no torque" about the 4.8. mine has a nice ammount of torque?

you won't be able to tell the difference b/n a 5.3 and a 4.8 without tearing it apart. even the block has "4.8/5.3" stamped on it

edit: the vin# is not gunna be wrong, unless you bought yur truck used and someone did the swap before you.

I can't see why that is not possible. I have bought cd's without the actual cd inside. Try going back to the record store and explaining that.
