Default My 6.0..what can it become?

Just kinda toying with the idea of pulling the motor out sometime soon and doing a buildup. Thought I would ask you guys your opinions. I plan on Futral doing the machine and assembly work. Some friends say that a 408 would be the best setup to run, because its not to radical and such. What type of components would you guys put in it? I plan on adding a Radix sometime as well.

Also another area of question are my heads....Can they be worked any or will a new set be needed? Just a few questions I have been toying with. Nothing going to happen in the immediate future, just kinda wanted to toss this out there and see what kind of feedback you guys have. Also this will hopefully rid the motor of the horrible piston slap/knock that it has, its aweful sounding.

Thanks for the info fellas..

You have lots of choices!
The 408 is a bored and stroked ( 4.00" from 3.622" ) 6.0L. It is easy to do and makes quite a monster motor. The torque gains are phenomenal.
Go with forged pistons and rods, this will allow most any type of forced induction down the road. Also go with ARP main/rod bolts, good insurance and are reusable. Futural will get you the good stuff either way.
Your #317 heads are already some of the best out there, especially if you are going FI down the road. Clean the chambers and runners of casting defects, maybe go for some larger valves if the budget allows.
Have fun, keep us posted on the end result!

A fire breathing monster. the posibilites are endless. you can build a big 408 and put a turbo on it like parish. thats one mean combo there. but if i where you id put a good set of heads and cam and some bolt ons. see if your happy withthat first.

I'd plan out how much you want to spend and then figure out if that much money will get you enough power. I would NOT build a NA motor and then change to FI as you'd be pulling it apart again and changing pistons at least.

I believe a 6.0 can get close to 427ci (maybe 423 is the limit?). 408 is plenty of torque and is already going to be close to the "radix limit", so I'd go for a turbo rather than the radix. Or just bolt a radix up to your 6.0, add some exhaust, cam, etc., and call her done if you don't want to be in the crazy hp / stupid fast segment.

you might want to look at an STS turbo before you swap the motor. a big boost in the power department and better gas milage... if you can keep you foot out ot the throttle.

I am just torn. Now I am starting to consider just getting the heads worked, and going with a cam also. Just do a heads/cam setup for now....

I don't know what the heads are capable of in my truck, and what cam to go with to match the capabilities and make the combo the best it can be...any other heads/cam only guys out there with the 6.0?

The baby cam and Supercharger makes this very fun to drive!

Radix, Long Tubes, baby cam and stall verter. 7500 to 8000 if you do the work. Could be done in 3 days or less. Run circles around me with the extra displacement.
