Default is it my fuel pump or what?

The truck is 2000 chevy silverado with a 5.3 and has 130,000 on the original fuel pump which has a broken back-flow valve on it. ok so im driving to work this moring at 5:45am and my truck started to jurk a little like my transmission was slipping. About a mile later it started to run rough like the MAF had been unplugged. I quickely pulled into the nearest parking lot where my truck died. Everytime i tried to start it back up after that it would crank and wanted to fire but wouldnt. Once again it ran like the MAF was unplugged but unlike when you unplug the MAF, no matter how much gas i gave it it wouldnt start. It eventualy just started to not even fire like the truck was out of gas or something. I unplugged the battery to reset the system thinking it might be an electrical problem but it wasnt. I also looking for any vacuum lines that had come off or something and i found nothing. Also, no codes where thrown. I just want your guy's advice on what it might be before i have to miss a class to get my truck running. I also dont want want to just throw money at it cause im a student and can barely afford to buy a new fuel pump.

Had the same thing happen, except we found out 3 of the 7 wires that go to the fuel pump were worn thru the plastic to the wire, so the pump didn't work. Totally thought it was the pump. Fixed the wires and now it runs like a raped ape.

Easy test is to check the check valve on the fuel rail to see if fuel comes out. If you have pressure then it should shoot out all over the place! Next is do what Trever said, check to see if the pump is coming on when you turn the key to start.

1 psi of fuel pressure will make the rail have pressure so don't just check it by pushing in the valve go get yourself a fuel pressure gauge it should be at around 50 to 60 psi with the key on. Keep us dated

MY .02

Had some thing like this happen a few weeks back on a customers Tahoe. Fuel gauge still showed 1/2 Tank. Was towed in. It started running rough then died on the freeway. I tried tapping the tank to see if the fuel pump would run. Nothing. No PSI (had a Gauge on it) and No Noise... Boss Gets in it and starts messing with it. Actually Runs for a few seconds and then starts running like the MAF was un pluged. We get it to limp into the shop and put it on the lift. Tap the Tank again and this time I notice it seems really hallow... WTF???? Pull the tank Because It was going to get a new pump regardless. Original pump with around 140,000 and we Just had it down a few weeks prior to change the pressure sensor on the top of the unit. Get the Pump out and... NO GAS... Usually when the pump goes, the gauge reads eraticly and will default to empty. This is the first and only one I've seen say 1/2 tank when it ran the tank to empty. No eratic readings either....
