Default My truck must just suck!

I was looking at the fastest truck list, and I got the slowest 5.3 regular cab truck. I got all the bolt ons, except for electric fans! Maybe cause I can't run it in cool weather until late this fall. I am happy that I have nocked off 1.2 seconds off of my stock quarter mile times, which is pretty damn good, but relizing that I am .3 seconds slower than the slowest 5.3 regular cab, bothers me real bad.

Which will give me the best bang for the buck. I got $1000 saved up again.

I am thinking electric fans, regear with eaton and 4.10s, or putting in a converter! Now, I will do all these mods later, and I would like to do the converter later when I rebuild the tranny for a supercharger, to spend money only once, but is it worth it to just get the converter first, and go ahead and spend the money twice for putting it in. Or would I just be as happy with the regearing?

Thanks guys. Depressing after spending $9400 on the truck and it is still slow!

no, mine sucks more.

im a regular cab 4wd 5.3

there is a 2wd runnin 14.81 stock.
here i am runnin 14.9 supercharged.
now that sucks.
i woulda thought a supercharger would have made me faster than any stock truck.

Dont feel bad hodgee. I feel the same way about my truck's times, even though I have yet to run it with the headers and predator.

I would think just a few of those suspicously "fast" times were freaks, B.S. and/or results of SUPER cool weather conditions. I know you live in Vegas where those super high temps really kill quarter times, as much as (or more than) half a second!

well don't get to discouraged yet. Alot of your mods are great but don't cut ets much.
Wheather, temp and tracks play a big part. Some thrown together back woods track compared to a fully legit track can also play a big part. I'm the only ls1 type truck at the NHRA track so I have nothing to compare it to.
My truck weighs 4300 race weight. I run MT drags and at the time my computer tuning was great. I ran my best times were in May of this year, close to sea level and the temp was under 70 degrees. well not anymore, since the upgrade to the predator, well thats another story
My truck in 99 ran 14.8 with nothing but an airaid, gibson signal 3" catback and hypertech. After that it was very hard to cut ets. Now, I have completely differant mods and best was low 14's.

What does your truck weigh when you race it, what are your shift points? If you don't have at least a 2.1 60 ft you need to work on traction. Even though your 20's are light you might be spinning bad and not even know it. Draw a white line with shoe polish on the sidewall and have someone whatch if they spin, from the pas side due to the great g80
Don't get discouraged, I saw no improvement with faster times with the Hotchkis kit nor should you see any with the brakes, Allthough I would love a set myself.
basically what I'm trying to say is I was high 14's even after all the usual bolt ons were had, tb bypass, fan, pulley, maf, plugs, wires etc.
I didn't see noticable improvements until the AZ Headers, no cats, stall, driveshaft and drag radials.

You need someone who is saying;"my truck runs 14.4 with just a paper filter and a cut out" to come to your track so you can have real life comparision.
I think you have a great running truck for your conditions it just needs to be tuned for the powerband that shows good et's.
Have you played with the predator settings for more hp? Did you ever run your truck with stock tuning for a comparision?
Does it ever get in the 70's there?

You'll get there, the biggist bang for your buck for $1000 is a Yank 3000.You'll probably see about a 1/2sec reduction of your ETs.

Hey creederado, do you actually think a 2.1 60ft time is possible with stock tires and a g80? If so how can I get such good 60fts? The best I have gotten is a 2.3. I usually brake stall my truck to 1000+rpms and wheelspin doesnt seem to bad when doing this.

Any suggestions on launching and minimizing traction loss?

Also whitt1, are the Yank3000's really $1000? I have heard for them as little as $699.

They are near $1000 installed.Unless you have a buddy in the transmission business the install with fluid will cost about $300.

Elevation plays a big part in the times on the fastest truck list. People that are .3 faster than you on the list may actually be slower. unless of course your times are corrected.

Why does everybody run the Yank 3000 when the 3200 is only $100 more? I am planning on getting the 3200 unless there is some reason people stay away from it. I want to run high 13s in warm weather. I haven't run the truck since the pulleys, wires, and headers, but my 14.6 was in cold weather. Thanks guys.
