need some advice for headers
I have heard from many people that i will not be happy with the gains from shortie headers...im thinkin that any headers are better than the stock block ones that are on my truck (11998 silverado 5.7 350). i can get some brand new jba headers for 250 and i was wondering if should get those or wait and save more money to get some long tube headers... i also wanted to know what you guy's think of the thorley headers..
Thanks

I don't have experience with thorlys. I do know of someone who just recently installed some gibson shorties on his 5.3 and was a bit dissapointed. Furthermore, a while back I read a thread where they dynoed a truck with shorty header and the difference was very minimal (4-5rwhp). Just save and go with long tube headers. I plan on getting some ASM's in future but there are other brands you choose from. Oh.. long tubes headers run from $500-750 depending on whichones you get.

With the older TBI motor, shorties will give you more of a gain than they will our trucks with the Gen III motor. Question yourself on how far you want to take this truck and then evaluate how much you want to spend.

Re: need some advice for headers
Your truck will still see better gain from shorties than ours. You should be able to find long tubes for your motor for under $500. If your planning on spending for a Procharger, definatly get the longtubes. Edlebrock and Thorley both make longtubes for under $450 and Jaradine makes a full set including a crossover (two piece longtube) for under $450 for your motor.

With a 5.7 you will have bigger selection of headers to choose from being a non-LS1 based motor.I would check around to see what was available in a longtube header.I think Edelbrock makes headers with wye-pipes for your application.Checkout headman and Blackjack headers to they may be cheaper.
