Default need some opinions....

Im about to buy a 5.3 block and my idea for the night is to make a 383 stroker out of it. I can get all the machine work and building for free. All i have to buy is parts. Then the bigger option, fi or nitrous? I think a 4-500hp n/a 383 + some boost or juice would be awesome. Another option: drop the truck and leave it 4wd or take all that out for weight and just have 2wd.

I seriously thought about selling the truck a few weeks ago but im not gona be able to get out of what i want so im gona keep it and get something else for a dd. Thats why i think im going to go ahead and get the block and buy parts when i can.

I would keep the 4wd for traction plus I think it would be a lot of work and expense to try and convert to 2wd.

yeh plus the traction on the street would be great. A 383 would be cool i think a lot of people here overlook what you can do with a 4.8 and 5.3 and go straight to a 6.0.

How are you going to get 383 ci out of a 5.3? How far can a 5.3 be bored?
I would lower the truck but keep the 4x4 because you can launch extremely hard with 4x4 and it only adds about 300#.

bore the 5.3 block out to 5.7L LS1 bore (3.622 i think) and drop in a 4" stroke crank and you have a nice 383

yeh me too, you said a big key word there (money). 5.7 bore is 4.00" i believe. the crank would be a 400 crank.
A couple questions:
1. With the 5.3 engine i have now, I can swap over all needed parts right?
2. Would I be on borrowed time with a beefed up 60e? (n/a)
3. Im guessing I can get around 400-450 whp with a good set of heads, big cam, intake, stall, and good tune, is this feasable?

Talked to my machinist today, he said he would charge me around $150 to $200 for block work. Sounds like a good price, I know him well and I know he does a good job.

I think I can answer # 2 myself but im in denial lol.

4" bore is a 6.0l -- 5.7 is like ~3.89" bore

i know the 383 use a 4" stroke crank. the 6.0L has a 4" bore. 4"bore x4"stroke=402 cu.in. and the 5.3 doesnt bore out to 4", i think its 3.622 but ill check for sure

ill look on ls1tech and find the stock ls1 bore

1. you can swap everything but the shortblock ( block, crank, rods, pistons, etc.). heads, cam, intake, and all sensors will swap over
2.if you had a flt lvl5 65e id say youd be fine n/a but if you dont id say yea on borrowed time.
3.i dont see why not, as long as you keep the 60e and 10bolt,you will have more cubes than a 6.0L

your build will depend on whether you are going for boost(supercharger or turbo) or juice

boost - afr 225s + custom speced cam + either ls6, vic jr., or fast intake manifold unless using on manifold s/c, 9.5:1 compression

juice - afr 205s +could use a shelf cam like tsp tqrv3 + same intake as previous + could go as high as 11:1 on pump gas

EDIT: from what i can find, you need a 3.90 bore to get a true 383 w/ a 4" stroke crank
