5.3L = 3.78 bore

3.78^2 * 4.00 stroke = 359 ci.

If you mean boring a 5.3 block to meet the 3.90 bore of the 5.7 LS1 I don't think that is possible. Normally a maximum overbore is .060 which would put you at a bore size of 3.84. That bore with a 4.00" stroke will get you 371 cubes.
Using an LS1 block will get you 382 ci with a 4" stroke.

its been done, safely. When its done i can buy all the stroker conversion parts that are made for the ls1 bore. maximum overbore is .06??? how long you been around engines? lol

there have been several that have made a forged 5.7L iron block (5.3 bored to 5.7 bore size)

read on tech and they will tell you a 383 is a ls1 with a 4" stroke crank, but a 382 is a resleeved ls1 with a very large bore(not sure what it is cuz i wouldnt want one) with the stock stroke

i couldnt find a spec on the stock ls1 bore but found a 383 shortblock that TSP had a single surplus of in a FS thread andit listed it as a 3.90" bore x 4.00" stroke

I was only trying to be helpful with your question. If a 5.3L block can be bored one hundred and twenty thousandths (.120) over to simulate a 5.7L then go for it.
If you don’t know what .060 over bore (sixty thousandths) is then I guess I have been around engines longer than you.

Bottom line...it's simple math -
0.7853982*3.90*3.90*4.00*8=382.269011904 cubic inches.

Call it a 383 if you wish.

i appreciate the help but all i was saying is im not just coming up with a new idea. i did some research and there are a few guys that have done without problems. I do know what .060 is I am a machinist. I understand the math I though you were saying it couldnt be bored more than .060 over. I found a deal on a 5.3 block and i read a long time ago about it so i said hey i can do that too. Also I can buy all off-shelf parts. What else can you do better with a 5.3 block?
