I have an '86 Silverado and plan to eventually swap out the motor, transmission, and rear end. Does anyone have thoughts on a setup that would generate a good amount of torque? And what would be a good idea to swap first? I'm looking for something to help in the "get up and go" dept.

Because I'd like to back it out of the driveway, without having to go to the gas station. It's still an option, though.

i second that except maybe a th400 instead of the th350

a gen3 sbc would be nice and make more power but be a more difficult swap

You could always go the old school route and throw in a stout small block with whatever 3 speed auto of your choice. Or if you want, you can switch to a Gen 3 small block. You can find complete motors cheap if you search around. A friend of mine found a 6.0 out of a wrecked 3/4 ton for 500 bucks. It came complete with everything engine related, right down to the fuse panel. It will be going in a mid 80s 2 wheel drive pickup with a Turbo 400. Right now it is just a bare frame with new paint. Should be interesting, especially since he just bought my old supercharger. Whatever you choose, remember, torque is your friend.
