Well I didn't have any tuners worth a damn around here and my dumbass sure as hell isn't going to waste hours and hours learning ls1 edit or hp tuners.

So I had to go with a mail order if I wanted a decent tune. I don't have the luxury of living in Texas with all of its great dyno tune shops.

 

My buddy has a Futral tune and he loves it and Im sure that they are very simialr to a Nelson or PCM4LESS-etc.... I bought a Westers Tune and Nelson tune at the same time to compare and I chose Nelson. The reason I went with those 2 in the first place was because they both give free updates for as long as you have the truck and for me I dont plan on getting rid of this truck ever and unfortuanlty I cant do all my mods in year so that was the big selling point for me. Ive gotten 5 tunes from Allen Nelson so far and plan on getting many more. Westers also has free updates for the life of the truck and if you get a new truck and want another tune whatever you paid for your old trucks tune is credited toward the new trucks tune and that was cool. Since you live so close and Futral obviously know what they are doing unless you plan on doing alot of mods for your truck over the next few years I would just use Futral but if your truck is gonna be a 2-3 year project and you dont want to pay for upgrades use Nelson. Either way your gonna love it! Good luck.

 

True... I'm here in CA and I havn't heard of any reputable tuners around here for our motors.....

A dyno tune is obviously the way to go... but I think alot the the repected guys like Nelson and PCM4less and Futal have don'e enough of these motors to get pretty close an Idea to what you are looking for and you'll see huge gains reuardless.... All these stock PCM's have the TM, and weaker shift points and A/F mixtures tuned for economy and not breaking stuff, if you can get around these to start with, then you're on to something.....

But in reality, after you've got the tune and have began to mod your engine, the Dyno is the way to go.

 

We have never used a generic tune in any car and I think thats what seperates the different shops. Generic tunes come close but each car is different and when your charging that price the customer deserves the best tune possible. Allan spends alot of time making sure things are right, some people appreciate that and are thrilled by each hp that is gained others would be fine with a generic tune from whoever that is cheaper and comes close. Guess it just depends on each person but we always wish everyone the best no matter what route they choose to go.

So you start with the completely stock program and modify everything from there? Cmon, surely you start with a baseline performance tune you've developed and then modify things here and there to suit the vehicle its going to run. Perhaps not?

If you live 30 minutes from Futral, you should know who to go with.

Not stating hes a better tuner, I really don't know. But, just the help around the corner, should be a major turn on for yourself.
