Default new 3" plan

im thinking of a new sorta quieter exhaust. i have a few different plans:
im bidding on 2 3" magnaflows single in and single out, and currently i have 1 2.5" dual in dual out with built in x-pipe. (plan 1) - running 3" pipe into a y for about 18" then into 1 single 3" muffler then out the side with some kind of tips. (plan 2) - using the 2.5" muffler that i currently have and turning it sideways between the headers and cross flowing it for some back pressure then going back with 2.5" pipe steped into 3" pipe and comming out the side with some kind of tips
i need to quieten down a lil since the cops are after me. any input on what i should consider doing would be appreciated.
right now the exhaust is going into 2.5" right off the header then dual into the muffler right behind the tranny crossmember then has regency tips right off the muffler.

how about get a xpipe and run from the headers to the xpipe then to the mufflers, one for each bank and then to the tips?

this is what i plan on doing

sure why not

maybe reduce it down to 2.5" after the xpipe if ya want, but then you couldnt use the mufflers your bidding on though

I got this from Magnaflows Website.....

Since your at ~350 Cid, would use 2 1/2

To reduce additional backpressure, the OEM exhaust tubing can be replaced with mandrel-bent tubing of the same size or one size up from the OEM. As a general rule, you can enlarge the pipe diameter of your OEM exhaust system by 1/4 to 1/2-inch to increase your horsepower. However, any additional increase in pipe diameter is likely to decrease your performance; specifically, low end torque.

thats some good info right there!!!! but i have more power than that!!!!! in the case of a plain ole muffler shop they dont use mandrel machines so the 2.5" is really just a hair over 2" mandrel bent flow. am i right or no?

I worked in an exhaust shop for 2 years while in college and this is my opinion. If you want a quiter exhuast then I would order 2 bullets and put them in front of the muffler you have now. Or do Plan-1. I understand your an Cammed LS1, but during those 2 years I never put on anything above 2.5. I would only suggest 3.0 duals if your were FI or a big block with a nasty cam....

As far as average muffler shops, many don't carry 3in pipe or the bending dies, I sure some do. Your correct on the bends that average exhaust shop will do, but I don't think it reduces it by a 1/2 inch.

As far as sound. the smaller the pipe the sound will be more crisp (more defined lope) and higher pitched. The larger the pipe or if you put large tips on it, it will make it deeper and less crisp sounding. Another thing the more bend you have the more 5.0 mustang sound it will have, the straighter the pipe it will sound more like a NASCAR....

Thats just my opinion, take it for what its worth......

Oh one more thing, if your worried about not having enough flow, then I would suggest 2.5 pipe and 3.0 mufflers..... That will make it a little deeper but keeping the crisp sound..... Actually that is combo I used to run on my stang.....
