I can vouch for the bigger the pipe the deeper the sound. I took my stock exhaust off my truck, and cut the front connection off and welded that to a stock D-Max exhaust. I went from whatever stock 2000 Silvy is to just over 3.5 inch stock 2007 Classic D-Max. And my truck sounds like it has a nice free flowing $600 catback on it. It has a noticable deep rumble at idle and a great open sound when I get on it. All with a completly stock D-Max exhaust with that huge muffler and everything.

I think it would be over kill will dual 3 inch, stay with the 2.5 or go with a big single exhaust with a nice electric cutout!!!
