Default New 4.8 in the truck

I got my truck back today with a brand new engine. Heads and all. I had it a Timmers Chevrolet and they did a great job of helping me get this done. I'll give them an A+. My warranty company wanted to put a used one back in it but Timmers worked with me and them to get a new one with only a little out of pocket cash from me. I paid the core on the old motor and will get it home too. Now I have a full 4.8 engine that's not in the truck to play with. What to do what to do ??? Just so you will know, I tried almost everything I could to get a 6.0 or a 5.3 put back, but because they are a dealer, they couldn't. I guess I'll just have to build a monster with the old one. I think I may use my old heads and get a P/P and swap them out first
Then go into the block and start playing. BTW the failure was due to a hole in the #5 piston. I am pleading the 5th amendment on any reason or speculation to what may have caused that.

Well, the most you could do with the 4.8L block is build a 5.3L out of it, but it would make a better boat anchor. Hahaha! The heads are good though, and now you probably have a spare set of coil packs, injectors, etc...

Better jet that dry shot down and run some AutoTap numbers on it before you use it.

I didnt think it would take you long to harrass me. Why cant I do more than a 5.3? Can't I bore it out, and drop some beefed up 6.0 heads on it, cam, forged pistons, crank, and rods and two stage 300 shot to it? There I got thinking out loud again. Allright Tony, put your brain to work and give me ideas and advice on how to make this engine run. Project time.....

This guy has a 5.3/4.8 block bored over to near standard LS1 size:

Bore it to that diameter, then use a stock LS1 crank, rods, and pistons. Honestly though, I don't know how well the block would hold up with that large of a bore (from 96mm to 99mm I think).

You could build a 382 by boring to LS1 piston size & installing a lunati 382 stroker kit. Remember a 4.8 is a 5.3 with less stroke.

$4,000 Ok let's rethink this. The 5.7 is sounding much better now. How about 100 dry and 150 wet 2nd stage????? I have all summer to do this.

they do have the same stroke, but different bore. so i believe you could keep the crank but would still have to buy pistons / rods. not 100% positive though
