Default New 408 running strong!

Well .. affter working out most of the bugs, I got to do a little tuning last night. All I worked on was the part throttle part, but once I was finishing up for the night I did finally decide to get into it. This thing is an absolute BEAST! I wasn't expecting it to run as hard as it is with the stock heads and a truck intake manifold, but it's really quite strong running.

As most of you know, I had some problems that turned out to be nothing after I got the motor and trans in. I did have to end up taking it to someone so a HUGE thanks goes out to CrazyCutter4.8 and his crew for finding the ground wire that I missed.

I've still not got the idle down as good as I would like to have it, but it's coming. Once the idle gets smoothed out, I will have a sound clip for you all to drool over.

I've got some other goodies that are planned for the truck in the near future, but they will have to wait. Again ... another huge thanks to CrazyCuter4.8 for the hookup on a couple of goodies. I will be sure to have to forward his address to my creditors so they can send him some thank you cards.

BTW ... specs on the motor are just your average 408, stock 317 heads and a truck intake. With the heads it should be at 11:1 CR. Right now, I'm pushing 26* timing and no KR up top, but I haven't touched the tune up there except pull some timing before anything got started to prevent any potential knock. The fuel looks close, but it's still a little rich. I would imagine I can get a little more timing out of it as well.

im curious to see how your around 11.1 cr with a 72cc head? also that motor has to be choking itself with those heads and intake? what size exhaust you running and size of primaries?

if your running the "giant" youre going to want something that can breath. youll get most out of it with a fast90/90 and a good set of ported heads. if youre running stock untouched heads and intake your probably only making low 400s. you open that breathing up and youll gain alot. but would like more specs on you setup

Quik, that is no new news to Flyer. He is well aware of his restrictions.

Anyway, congrats Flyer!! Glad to hear you are liking it so far. Look forward to your updates and idle clip.

Agreed.

-2cc pistons
4.100 diameter and .053 thick gaskets
4.030 bore
4.000 stroke
pistons .007 out of the hole

Do the math. I came up with something like 10.9789:1 or something like that.

No 90/90 for me, but I do have something in the works. The heads do have a valve job, but that's it.

It's got one.

I'd like to break the 500rwhp mark, but I know that's a tall order with 4.10's and an 80e. I would like to run better than an 11.95 @ 110 on the motor. I would be happy with that.

I bet you would be happy with that. I bet it see's some N2O at some point. It would kill me to be that close to the 10 second mark and no go for it.

Sounds great. If I don't get burnt out on the truck over next couple years I'm gonna do a 408. Don't know if I'll ever not do a FI setup.
