New best 1/8th mile time
I have changed nothing but the tranny and converter since the last track outing last year when it went 8.52 in the 1/8th. I went 8.39 this weekend with a 30mph crosswind at the track. It pulled 1.95 60fts and the autotap shows the timing going to -5 at the hit of the throttle. Absolutely no traction problems on the stock Generals but once I get edit and get the timing up I think I will need some tires.

hey, if your seeing -5deg of timing when you punch it might be knock learn. i have learned a few things about KR and trying to control it with ls1edit and you really can't. are you seeing any KR? if you are seeing any KR at all the comptuer may have seen more KR in the past and has learned to adjust for it without actualy leting it happen. it does this by pulling timing under circumstances where it tends to see knock. by desansatizing my knock sensors slightly i went from 6deg of timing and 8deg of KR to 15deg of timing and 0deg of KR.
could be some crazy TM too, on the 99's the computer only pulled timing at the shifts but i have heard the new truck do more.

oh yea, i got to tell you, you are going to love that thing when you get the timing right, you prety much have the same set up as me except for about 1000lb less and i am seeing some 8.1 1/8mile times, thats with just 6-7psi and pump gas. you will have major traction problems once you get it tuned right .

From day one my truck wouldn't spin the tires even after bolting on the Whipple. I bought a scanner for my palm back then (should've bought a-tap but didn't have a laptop)-anyways I wasn't able to log but I could see that it was pulling the timing down to negative numbers. Now remember this was an 02 in the fall of 01 and nobody had any tuning info on the 02's. I finally got Superchips to let me come to their facility in Feb of 02 and their 2 best GM engineers spent 2 full days on it. I watched them using a tech 2 and it never showed any KR even when it was detonating on the dyno to the point where I thought I was gonna have to walk home from Florida! The Superchips guys didn't have an explanation for why it never showed any KR but they told me to be glad 'cause lots of people have it and can't get rid of it. Anyways I am still running on that program they made which worked fine-it is real conservative-until I put in the Converter and the "Raptor" parts. I already had a Level 10 shift kit and it was fine. The only KR I ever see is once the MPH goes over 100 then I see anywhere from 2-4 KR. Edit is next on the list but I have to pay off the headers first!

Re: New best 1/8th mile time
Funny you say that they couldn't seen any KR
I have the same issue with my truck
We added 8 degrees of timing over stock and heard it piging and detonating and still didn't see anything on the tech 2?
Maybe this is somthing with the 2002 Pcm tuning or less sensitive knock sensors
Hmm Explains alot now i thought i was the only one to have this happen

Re: New best 1/8th mile time
New best time. part 2! Put the ASM's on this week and went back to the track today. Almost identical weather conditions as last week. I went 8.22 at 83.01 with a 60 ft of 1.86! (On the stock Generals) Last week without the headers it was 8.39 at 81.8 with a 60 of 1.95. It is still pulling the timing back at the hit. I am ordering edit Monday morning. So I am happy with the headers at this point. Some timing, an Eaton, some tires, and more boost are the next plan. Then in the fall the N20 goes on. (after I become proficient at edit)

I don't know how but I ain't complaining! The day after I bought the truck I contemplated taking off the tires and buying something else because I thought they were butt-ugly. But I changed my mind after the first time to the track. I have a set of MT 26x11.5-16 and the truck has always been quicker and faster on the stockers. Last year the 60 fts were a best of 1.99 to average of 2.03 to 2.07 with the Generals. The MT's were around 2.08 to 2.15, I think.
Now what you have to remember is my timing goes to negative #'s when I launch and I don't get full timing until like 4000-4500 RPM. I believe this is killing the bottom end and aiding traction. I got LS1 edit this week but I am having problems getting it loaded on my laptop. I am anxious to compare the stock file to the Superchips and see what they changed.
