New gears and torque converter results
Went to the track and tested the new gears(3.73) and converter(2400). went from 15.88 to 15.64. Dropped a tenth in the 60'. The air was a little warmer and more humid than the 15.88 run but I wouldn't think that I lost more that a 1/10 from the air. Also when I Brake stalled to 2000 RPM I couldn't get any traction , so I launched at 1500 with Very little tire spin. How much will exhuast help with out headers? and is it worth it? If I get a 1/10 from exhuast its not worth it to me. Guess I will just have a slow truck until the waranty runs out!

Re: New gears and torque converter results
More details please. Which/Whose converter were you using and what is the STR?
What was your original gear ratio? If you went from 3.42's to 3.73's the difference is minor especially with OE 30" tires.
Most sub 3000 converters are very mild and you shouldn't expect .5 gains. The new motors need to see more rpm for greater gains but you mucst also be able to get this power to the ground...better tires are definately in order.

It does flash to 2400 and I can foot brake it to 2100. Didn't go with less than a 12" converter because of heat ( I haul a trailer about once a week). Guess I should have just left the stock converter in. Went with 3.73, due to commuting from San Antonio to Houston for work every week. Also I have a programmer, ASP pulley, and a Volant Air Box.

Re: New gears and torque converter results
sorry to hear the results from the mods.... just my 2cents but i'd get the headers and exhaust. maybe some spray or s/c after that. the blower would kick *** with the 3.73's and pulling a trailer.

Re: New gears and torque converter results
Your problem is you are able to turn the tires more easy.I have the same problem with mine. Put some drag radials on and you will see the difference. The converter isn't as good as some of bigger ones, but you maintain your driveability and towing.Keep working at it you will get the gains you want.

Mr Mix where did you get 3.90 gears and do they bolt right on? These would be a perfect compromise between 3.73 and 4.10. Thanks for your help dude.

Re: New gears and torque converter results
I got mine from E.T. performance. Yes they bolted right in. No problems. The only bad thing is the Hpp3 doesn't have a setting for 3.90 so you have to play with the tire height to get it right.

Re: New gears and torque converter results
Bowtied and I played with ls1edit last weekend and we got it to pull harder and second was a little firmer. any other tips on making a trans shift better? the ls1edit doc sucks! what are all those buttons for under the transmission tab? i'm sure we can pull a little more out of it.
anybody else going to RCR the 6th of next month. i should have my fans on and new oil pump by then, so i can make lots of runs
