To get 500 you'd need good heads, full bolt ons, and a good cam, preferably custom ground. A 3000 stall torque converter, 224 ish cam, and a good tune would make a major difference for you though.

I think I'll start with the cam and tune. You guys seem to know your stuff. A friend today told me to try the Thunder Racing 224 cam and a tune. What would that put me at, at the crank? If it's not fast enough, I can always buy the heads, but I'd like to try one thing at a time and see how it goes. Thanks again guys!

In that heavy truck, that cam will be rather sluggish off the line without a converter. Any cam out of the 212/218 range will be sluggish in that thing with no converter. You need cam, converter and tune. That 224 with a good tune and converter will probably give you around 35 or 40 more horses at the wheels.

Okay. I don't have a problem doing a torque converter. I would just like to get the maximum performance from a cam swap and tune.

Does the STS turbo kit fit a current generation Suburban or are there other options?

Not sure if the 6.0 in the Burb has DOD and/or VVT but I suspect that it does, which will bring up an entire different set of choices and recommendations regarding camshaft changes.

I didn't even think about VVT. That opens up a whole other can of worms......
