Default new here and i have some questions

Whats up guys nice board you have here. I own a 2001 chevy silverado hd 2500 with the 6.0. I have 35inch goodyears on 16x10 inch rims and a 6inch superlift. I also have a custom duel exhaust with duel flowmasters. My question is what performance accesories can be ran together on the 6.0. I'm looking at adding the volant cold air intake and the mass air flow sensor. I'm also addidng either the diablo or the superchip programmer with the intake and sensor. Has anyone had any problems with the addition of diffrent intakes with their programmers and also I would like to hear everyones war stories or praises of the diffrent brand of programmers . Thanks and in the meantime i'll be reading my search results.

welcome to the board. The MAF sensor isnt worth a darn in my opinion unless your running some boost or a big engine. Just a waste of money. First you need to figure out exactly how much money you want to spend and what you want out of your truck. Personally I would put a cam, torque converter and maybe some nitrous. That will probably give you the most for your money. Also some long tube headers would be pretty good. Their is just so much and not enough money. But congrats you are in the right place.

Welcome to the board! I agree that the MAF is a waste of money. As for programmers go, I have the Hypertech HPPIII and like it alot. I like what it can do to fix my speedometer with different tires, I like how you can change the shift points and rev limiter, I like the transmission shift firmness selecter, and I like the fact that you can get a used on for like $200 in the classified section. I dropped 5 tenths of a second in the quarter mile with just a Hypertech. I also think the Volant intake is real nice, as is the UPD and the AEM brute force, which is the one I run. Hang around long enough and you will get some great advice from the guru's around here, there are a lot of smart and helpful people around here.

Volant's are nice. I like mine a lot. I would ditch the idea about the mass air flow sensor, they are more hype than anything.

Rather then buying a handheld, have you considered custom tuning? You might give Allen at www.nelsonperformance.com a ring and see what he has to offer. They are competivley priced against the Diablo.

Headers would be a very good addition to your truck and exhaust. A cam would be another nice choice, something small, like a 208/212 low lift. I say low lift cause you can run the o2 z06 springs and be fine. They should last a lifetime with something small like that. A converter would also get that thing moving a lot better, but since you have the 4l80e tranny, you might think about gears instead.

Wanted to add this .... I';ve heard lot about the UPD's cracking .. I would consider this as a reason to look elsewhere if it were me. Like BadMOFO said though .. hang around long enough and you'll learn whats good and whats not.

I'm not looking for nitrous upgrades or anything mostly bolt ons. I just want a intake and a programmer so I can get some more horsepower and better gas milage. With the 4-10 gears i'm running 2 or 3 miles more per gallon is alot and hopefully I will get that out of the 2 upgrades i'm looking at as well as a little more performance. Also what does everyone think about the throttle body spacers.

I would do the Volant intake, Nelson's tune, and if there's cash left to burn a set of coated TOG headers. If you get headers, don't bother with shorties, and make sure they are coated.

MAF, TB spacer, and other things like that are gimics. Stay away from them.

Ok looks like the volant cold air box and the diablo programmer are gonna be my best bet. I almost bought the hypertech III until I read up on it. Maybe on down the road I will add some headers. I had no idea they ran about a grand and then you have to pay to have them coated I will have to save up for them.

There isn't much of anything that is cheap for our trucks. The long tube headers will really make a difference though.

Glad we got you straightened out. Some people have not been very happy with thier Diablo tuner. Is there any particular reason you are stuck on it?
