new truck need performance advice
Hey guys just got my new truck a gmc ecsb z71 L33 with 3:42's went from 2500hd ecsb 4X4 4:10s
I only did the HPP3 and an exhaust on the old truck
the thing i liked about the 4L80e was how nice it shifted with the program
while the new truck seems quicker the old one shifts tight .
I have a friend with an 03 tahoe z71 with the hpp3 and it's still a little soft at full throttle
Should I send in my hpp3 ?
sell it and get another programer ?
Is there mor to gain with another programer ?
I know hypertech has the 05 hpp3 havent seen anyone else
Iwould like to get into the low 14's high 13's with out spray
maBYE WITH BOOST?

Well the L33 is the Aluminum 310 hp 5.3, and I dont think that your old programmer wil work on it. The best bet for a program is a Nelon Tune. www.nelsonperformance.com it is a custom tune, were he sends you the whole computer itself and you just swap them out. They make a lot more power than any handheld plus he can eliminate almost all torque management with that 4L80E. If it was a L33 make sure it has a 4L80 in it, I think they came out with a 4L85E to replace the 80. It will take alot to get low 14 and 13 since the weight of your truck is killing you. A exhaust, custom tune, long tube headers, cam and stall shouuld get you there. Also get a transgo shift kit so Nelson's can eliminate 100% of torque management. All of that should get you there. F8L needs to chime in, he has a ex cab 5.3 that was running low 14 and 13 I think before the turbo. He has a hudge cam in his though. Hope this will help you out.

Your new truck has a 4L60 the 80 isnt available in the 5.3 trucks. In an ecsb you are going to need a cam, headers, custom tuning, and a stall to get you near 13's. Welcome to your new obsession

the main stuff to start with is programming, (real programming) torque converter, shift kit parts, cat back exhaust, good cold air intake, and gear since you for some reason or another got the candy *** 3.42 gear... (no truck needs to be able run over 90 in second).
btw, he's right you should have a 4L60E. i don't even know why someone would think there's a 4L80E in there????

The guys are right.. You will have to really dig into that fat pig to get it into the low 14s high 13s.
You already have a little problem with those 3.42s if you try to stay N/A but if you go the turbo route it's actually benificial.
If you wanna stay N/A you can copy my my mods (change the cam to something you can live with).
Volant Intake
home ported TB
Electric fans
Yank TT3000
226/.353/112 cam
AS&M Long Tubes
Gutted cats
Magnaflow muffler
Custom tuning
Weigth reduction for track runs
That got me to a 14.29@97mph 2.0 60' raceweight 4900lbs and I still got 15.5mpg
Overall I think you'd be much happier with forced induction as the driveability is better, towing will be better but will hurt your gas milage if you are heavy footed.
An STS kit with an intercooler, injectors and a fuel pump would work wonders on your truck and get you some massive ET drop at 8psi or so. This will keep you almost 100% smog legal and will be 100% smog legal if STS gets the CARB # for the kit. Even if it doesn't get the #s it is very easy to remove the kit. Add a TQ converter and you can knock off probably another second off your ET since you'll launch HARD in 4wd.
Not quite your setup but you can see what a converter+boost+4wd does for a launch. LOL

Zippy, the only time I would disagree with you is on the 2nd gear over 90mph thing.
N/A I got my best times with my cam by running 2nd gear through the whole 1/4mile. If I let if shift into 3rd earlier my times would suffer. I would run 2nd gear to 97mph and slightly tap the limiter at the end. I tried a few different ways but nothing worked better.
Ohh, the other reason I said FI is a better idea is that all those little N/A items add up real quick and you end up spending almost as much as you would on a good blower or turbo and have less ability to upgrade later. Unless you strap on nitrous of course.

well, you were able to go faster by shifting it later, but my point is if you can run that kind of speed in 2nd, you need more gear. going into third would have been the faster way to go if you'd had more gear. with the choices now being 3.42 or 4.10, i don't see any option there other than to get the 4.10. 3.42's shouldn't be available in that heavy a truck. with more gear you can get the performance using 3 gears instead of just 2.

Tell that to the powerglide crowd. :p

I know what you mean. Problem is not many people wanna sepdn $1500 to do a gear swap on a 4wd. I know I sure as hell didn't. I agree that 3.42s should not be an option. Especially on a Z71 which comes with even taller tires than stock trucks (except the SS).

Maybe as an option for the track, just get a set of 25" tall tires. That's what I'm going to do next year. You could get a set of factory take off wheels of E-Bay for cheap. Just another thought.

We'll thanks for the info .I Know the 3:42 suck but There wasn't one with 4:10's for 100miles around and my lease was up on the HD.
And I saved myself some coin on the payment for mod budget .
I loved my HD for the 4:10's alone {pull some tree's out with it}
Can the diablo remove the TQM?
what about the crane unit to match the cam?
