Default newb lq4

Hey guys, I have a 99 rcsb 2wd 5.3L and have a chance to pick up an 01 lq4 longblock that needs rebuilt. The truck is my daily driver and i take it on long road trips frequently. So i wanna build the 6.0 to max hp and still have a good DD. I have read quite a few of the threads on here about lq4's and just cant decide on the best combo or if i should just pass this deal up. any advice would be greatly appreciated

are you planning on running a larger stall converter?? do you tow with the truck?? what gear is in the truck now???

BTW i went 13.60 at 99 with a stock 6.0 in a ecsb with a 3000 stall

I'd like to keep the factory converter. I only haul a very light motorcycle in the bed or a load of dirt once in a while, so towing isn't an issue. My gears are factory spec.

Staying with the stock converter will really limit what you can do cam wise. There are options out there that will still allow you to tow, drive normal under light throttle, yet still allow you to run a larger cam.

Sure. Circle D or Yank can fix you right up.

im pretty sure lq4 has the dished pistons resulting a lower compression motor than the lq9. depending on funds i would go forced induction? btw circle-d stall and maybe some gears and it can still feel like stock driving

Yes, they are dished, but a set of 243 heads milled .035 will give you 10.7:1 compression with .051 gaskets.

funds are definitely an issue, but if i decide to pick up this lq4, it needs rebuilt so it would be a perfect time for internal upgrades. Would L92 heads be better than 243's?? Should i keep the rotating assembly stock specs and just swap cams and converter?? I rather keep it N/A
