Default Newbie 5.3l cam ?

I'm wanting to recam my truck. its a 2004 chevy silverado 4x4 with 35 inch tall tires.it has the 5.3L . It has a computer programer and duel pipes and a K & N mass air flow.can someone tell witch one would be best for lo to mid range and ( high if posable) and still have a good sound. This is a daily driver of 50 miles plus and it also used for long road trips. The head have been rebuilt/worked and the cooling system replaced.I'm also running the factory tranny system and don't want to change it if possable. I do pull trailers every now and then.
also what else would you change while doing this and is it a "have too: change or just to up the HP?

I will check into it.
The comp cam numbers are

54-450-11
54-451-11
54-408-11
These are the ones I have been looking at.

For mid to low range you can't go wrong with a 212/218 low lift or high lift from comp. 210/220 cam is working well for me also. Don't go with anything above the 220 range. That's too big for a 5.3. I think a 212/218 will work with a stock tune, but it is always best to get it tuned for the cam.

212-218 would be a good cam for you, still able to keep stock converter or upgrade later if you would like to.
Defanitly get a good custom tune like black bear. Dont waste your money on hand helds.

If you dont have gears they should be first on your list. You say you tow so IMO I would go 4.88s. most will disagree with me but once you feel what gears can do you will understand what Im saying.

I've had 4.11's and I liked them, but for daily driving I like my 3.73's. IMHO 4.88's would kill your mileage for daily driving.

actually for city driving you might get better mileage with the 4.88s, I have had 4.56s, 5.13s and 5.38s so I have seen what it does to mileage. For what you gain power wise in the city it easilly makes up for the little highway loss in mileage.
Your tranny will also like it and last longer.

I'll look into the gears also. I do ALOT of hwy driving. I just got back from a 10hour each way hunting trip to ohio, I also drive to alabama just about every weekend during hunting season and to winston NC twice a moth when hunting season is not in. then again i drive hwy every day comming from douglasville to down town atlanta. I also talked to comp cams and the recamended a kit that came with cam (54-424-11) lifters, springs, retainers, locks, and seal. the only other things I would need is puch rods. the guy told me the length would need to be mesured but these would work 7955-16.

Another thing I would like to do is see if a sponcer would have a set up also with a better price and able to tell me more about this stuff. Its all new to me.

Give those guys over at Texas Speed a call. They always seem to be very helpful and have good customer service and they are a sponsor.
