newbie engine questions
I currently own a 2000 GMC 2500 with the 6.0l. I plan to get rid of this truck in the spring for one a little bit nicer and newer, which I plan to lift and I'd like to mod the engine some so I can still beat up on those little Hondas around town. I was planning on getting the Z71 with the 5.3l, but after coming here and seeing so many threads about the 6.0l, I was wondering whether maybe I would be better looking for a 1500HD so that I can still get the HP and speed I'm looking for. I basically want this truck to be fast and have a pretty loud, but very good sounding exhaust. I was planning on getting a Hypertech chip, throttle body spacer (how much do you really gain from these though, I've heard some people say not much), a new air intake, headers, highflow cats, and some form of loud (maybe race?) mufflers true dualed. I was also toying with the idea of getting a new cam and maybe even trying to find an LS1 intake manifold to bolt up to this truck. So, my question is, which engine would be best for pushing around a lifted trucks on 36s-38s, and which of these engine mods should be made first and maybe even some left out or others added on? I'm basically just going for an all around bad@ss truck.

gm started making 1500 with 6.0's (vortec max)... you could get a 1500 crewcab z71 with the 6.0 and I believe it comes standard w/4.10's.... forget about the hypercrap... get a custom tune, exhaust, CAI... and go from there...

6.0 would be nice for moving heavy tires since it has good pulling and moving power
as far as the tb spacer and hypertech, save your cash and pend that on a intake, headers, and exhaust... the tb spacer is worthless lol

How much more power are we talking between the 6.0 and 5.3 though, because 5.3's are alot easier to come by lol. And as for the tb spacer, thats what I figured. What mods would yall do on the truck (either engine) in what order? I don't know a ton about engines, but I've got a couple friends that know alot so they would do most of the installing as long as it wasnt too technical.

HAHA well this truck is gonna be made to get frisky, I love nothing more than watching Honda's in my rearview mirror on straightaways, my friend has one and tried to race me one day, he claimed my exhaust (from straightpipes, which definitely wont be done again on the new truck) held him back lol
