Default No OD after servo install...

I installed a vette servo for a buddie over the weekend and afterwards there was no overdrive. I had a hard time getting the large spring to stay on the pin to slide it in the hole and had to pull it out twice because it would not go all the way in. I am farily sure I got all the pieces turned the correct way. All other gears work and shift great but it just wont go into OD. I put mine and another friends in without a hitch but this one was a pain. Any suggestions?

Ah yes, more reasons why I steer everyone clear of trans work themselves (other than fluid change or cooler install)...too much of a PITA.

Anyway...I bet you did one of two things:

1. Forgot to reinstall OD return spring
2. Lip seal is backwards

I bet it is No. 2. You need to use something like a feeler gauge to get the seal in properly. The servo pin allows fluid flow to the cover and creates pressure on the OD piston then to the band. If the seal isn't orientated correctly, the pressure will just blow-by the OD piston.

I hope that makes sense and helps.

You got something backwards or an o-ring broken probably..No OD b/c it wont hold pressure. Only way to really know for sure is to have a known good servo set to look at when you pull it back out.

OK buy the diagram the return spring nor the cushing spring retainer came out with the servo. Is that the spring you are talking about HitMan?
Also I believe the inner housing(9) may be backwards. I have the fins facing the second apply piston. Is that the way it goes? Hard to tell by the diagram.

By the diagram, I think part 15 (seal) is in incorrectly. If it is, that ATF pressure will just blow by. I think part 9 (housing) can only go the one way with those ribs facing out. I would imagine if it were going in backwards it would be very difficult to reinstall.

I do have my ATSG manual handy and can scan a better exploded diagram of the servo assy if needed...

I know for a fact that the three plastic seals and two o-rings are in and good. However I did install the housing with the ribbs facing the apply piston. If you would, look at your diagram and see which way it is supposed to go.

The fins/ribs face out towards the cover (opposite of case). I looked at two diagrams to verify.
