NOS purge question
Got a question for you guys that spray. Do you have purge kits or purge through the motor, ive been around nitrous for a couple of years, but first time to try it on fuel injected vehicle. Its a NOS wet kit im gonna try 75 shot first, any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Re: NOS purge question
Since you are going wet, you will probably want a purge. When you hit the nitrous, you want the main line from the bottle to already be full. If not, there will be a slight delay for the nitrous, but not the fuel. That means you will run really rich for a second.
For a dry kit, it doesn't matter. There will be a slight delay before the power hits, but noting adverse will happen.

Re: NOS purge question
I am in the process of building a custom dry system for my truck and a purge is not in the plans for right now. I second what BigTex said though about purging with a wet shot.
BTW.. Nice to have another MS boy on here. I actually dated a girl from BaySprings when I was at State. I take it you do most of your track time at HubCity?

Re: NOS purge question
Well im glad that are other MS guys here myself, i usually go to Hub or Lena either one. The way my exhaust is run, is true duals to the axle, y into single, has a crossflow Flowmaster off of a 95 Z28, mounted sideways where the spare tire would be and run out under the bumper with the black square tips of off the same car, it sounds excactly like a Z28. If you have any other questions about it let me know.

Re: NOS purge question
i could be wrong here but i was told the reason to purge is to get the bottle presure down to a consistant level, if you are trying to make consistant runs you will want the bottle presure to be exactly the same before each run.
when you open the bottle it presurizes the line right up to the solenoid, there cant be much regular air left in that line, what? maybe a few inches? and at 900psi or so how long does it take to get to the engine. just what i was told and it seems reasonable. all this means to me is no need to purge unless you are bracket racing.

Re: NOS purge question
The nitrous doesn't stay a liquid very long in the heat of an engine compartment. I have purged before a burnout and after a good 5-8 secs of spining, a dry hop or two and a few revs to clear the motor I can purge again and have nothing but gas (weak nearly clear plume as opposed to the one in the pic above.)
When at the track, I purge for consistencey and to make for a harder "hit." It is not a necessity for a dry kit, but again it plays its role in making ET...remember were counting fractions of a sec. You can also use the purge to regulate pressure down too but this is not that common.
When on the street, I rarley purge as the "softened hit" is desirable on street tires. Mostly, I use it to coax those unwilling participants into a race (Z06, M3's, Porsches, etc) or to scare of ricers not worth racing (the Qtec electric cutout works nice for this too.)
All in all this is a 50/50 mod for me ... not an absolute necessity but nice to have.
