Yeah that is what I was fearing, the cost. A dealer is selling a 2001 chevy silverado 1500 4x4 4.8l for $4,000 but it has 200k miles on it. Should i even consider buying it and do an engine swap on it? Or what do you think?

The v6 5 speed will bolt up to the v8, the only item you will need is the flywheel spacer used on factory v8/5 speed 99-05 trucks.
No spacer is needed for 03 up. Not sure about 99-02. I did a V6 to v8 6.0L with NV 3500 about 4 years ago in a 03 RCSB 4x4. It works perfect. Best upgrade ever and it gets better fuel mileage. Used a 4.8 stick clutch and flywheel. I reused the clutch slave and throw out bearing.

I'm looking into swapping up from my 4.3 to a 4.8(not looking to race or do anything like that) would that be about the same as going to a 6.0 in regards to the work that needs to be done?, and what is the best company to buy said engine and transmission from that is turn key and reasonably priced.

i have a 2002 4.3 silverado and bought a 2005 5.3 vortec for it with harness, computer and transmission for it. i am not a mechanic but got a mechanic to put it in. the things that he did was put a 2002 5.3 intake to be able to use the same fuel system as the 02.Ran custom fuel lines to fit the intake. then noticed the c152 connection did not plug in directly to the truck harness. i got the end of the plug off a 2005 and looked at a schematic and found the colors being the same the only thing one wire from the 2005 was a tan being a fuel pump secondary and one wire that didnt connect was a black and white off the 02 truck being a axel switch. I used the tb of the 05 to connect the sensor then we got a fusebox for a v8 but didnt get a 05 was a 02 fusebox. Put the battery on and notice not all the gauges lite up. try to start the truck and truck didn't even start. what would you say i need to do next seems like the mechanic hit a stump not being experienced in doing this swap would u say get the 05 fusebox or use the 02 v6 fusebox. Or do i have to change out the harness for the gauges for a 05 silverado. please any advise will help thank you

i don't know why would you swap the fusebox ? it's the same take your old engine harness out put the new one in and that's it , for your engine harness is your truck DBC or DBW if DBC then return tha harness and buy 2002 or older harness , for the intake i would say put something that you find with harness , also after swap you need to tune vats system off or your truck will never start

yes .

what is the pedal system in your truck ?
if DBC then any harness from 99-02 , if DBW then any harness from 03-06

if you want to swap from DBC to DBW not worth it at all , if you swapen it cuz the engine is 05 swap the intake manifold and engine harness to a 2002 or older model
