there's some support for the royal purple

Step Six: Slippery Oil

We were so close to 500 lb-ft that we decided to pull out the magic wand: synthetic oil. It's generally worth a few power numbers, so we drained the 10W30 dinosaur sauce and poured in Royal Purple's 5W30 street oil (lighter-weight racing oil is also available). It took three dyno pulls for the synthetic to do its thing, then it made the repeatable power we wanted: 502.9 lb-ft and 463 hp. As an average from 2,500 to 5,800 rpm, the Royal Purple bought us 7 hp and 10 lb-ft. Combined with the extra engine protection and heat resistance, this is a no-brainer.

Yeah, I saw an article in one magazine or the other a year or so ago, and they did the same basic thing, but changed ALL the fluids to syn. engine, tranny, and diff. and gained something like 15-20 hp from it... sounds like a no brainer to me

It is not so much of a HP gain as it is freeing up HP that is already there by reducing friction. By doing the engine, trans, and diffs the friction reduction compounds itself each time thus "showing" more HP.

243,000 miles, . . . hard miles. This was in a lifted truck that was abused every weekend, in every mud hole, and then daily driven 120+ for work.

damn, not bad

earlier today I took my truck up to carspa and got some Mobil1 synthetic put in. I had a 15$ off any service over 50 bux coupon. only cost me 60 for all the oil/labor and a full interior/exterior wash with polish

driving just a little around town it feels "fresher" especially since I was overdue by about 1k miles for my oil change, I know god forbid

over the next few days I'll see if it feels any better than any other oil. really I know I most likely wont feel it, the only difference would be to put it on the dyno. ne ways, i'll see how it works out. if it does fine, I only have to get it changed every 8k which aint bad
