Default Oil change interval ??

GM says 7,500 miles, my dealer says 5,000, my father says 3000 (he's kinda old school), and Walmart says 10,000 !!!

the 10k seems too long cause that's ALOT to ask of motor oil and the 3k seems too short cause the oil is still clear and new looking.....

currently I change it somewhere in the middle of those two....what do you guys think

I ran mine 5000 hard miles on Mobil 1 10w/30 on the last interval and this is how the oil analysis came back.

EQUIPMENT MODEL: 5.3L 327 CI V-8
OIL USE INTERVAL: 5,100 Miles
Miles on truck: 11,500
OIL TYPE & GRADE: Mobil 1 10W/30
MAKE-UP OIL ADDED: 1 qt
Oil used from 1/15/03 - 7/15/03

(From Blackstone labs) JASON: Your new 5.3L Vortec engine is still undergoing wear-in at 11,510 miles so the above average wear metals are not unusually high, considering the circumstance. We would like to see lead lower since it comes from bearing inserts, but chances are, it will read lower in the next sample. Silicon and all the other metals should drop a little too. This appears to be 10W/30 oil and we have no problem with the oil use interval, though it may be a little long considering wear-in. No gas or anti-freeze found. Use 4,000 miles next sample.

I change every 5000-6000 miles in my 8.1.In the Duramax every 10,000 with synthetic oil.IMO changing every 3000 is a waste of time and money, unless you plan on keeping your vehicle for a million miles.I have ran vehicles to 200,000 miles with this schedule and had 0 problems.A friend bought my old 96 chevy and it has 320,000 miles on it now.
