Default Oil & Filter Question

should i run synthetic oil or regular oil in my truck? (look at sig) And if i want to use a long filter should i use the pf58 or pf59. I plow with the truck if that makes a difference. The truck does see some hard miles so what would be the best thing for me? I run premium gas, i just to make it run good and last. thanks

I use Mobil 1 10w-30 synthetic oil w/ pf59 (long) filter.

I Haven't had any problems with it at all, and i still change the oil every 3,000 just because. Runs good.

premium gas is overkill for a stock motor, save your money for the gas that it will use. do you change your oil every 3k miles or so? if so, don't waste your money on synthetic either. definately run the long filter.

the pf58 filter is for a caddy. for the trucks it's either a pf44 (short) or pf59. i run royal purple 10w30 in mine changed ever 3500 miles, but my dad runs regular valvoline 10w30 in his yukon which hasn't given him a peep of touble in over 90,000. it's up to you. i get RP cheaper than mobil one, so thats what i run. good luck

Just wondering why everyone is running 10/30? Manual calls for 5/30 unless you are in a really cold environment and even then it states that 10/30 should only be used if 5/30 is not available. You guys know something I dont? (very likely)

I run Mobil 5/30 in mine with no noticeable ill side affects with pressure or anything. Just curious guys. Thanks.

Oh, and I only run NAPA filters.

well if you look up in oil forums it will tell you that 10w-30 is good from 0 to 100*. i use royal purple tranny fluid, engine oil, gear oil, and purple ice in the radiater. it all works great.

PF 59
Amsoil 10W-30

I change the filter and add a quart every 2500-3000 miles. It worked well for my grandpa's ElCamino that has 225,000 miles. He has been doing the same for over 100,000 miles. I figured if it works for him it would work for me.

I ran a napa(wix) filter for a while and noticed it came in a bigger box than the PF 59, which made me think that it was bigger. It was the same size as the AcDelco one though. The PF 59 also has a wider and taller rubber gasket on the top. Just my observation.
