oil pump and timing chain upgrade, suggestions....
planning on doing the cam swap this coming weekend. i think i am going to go ahead and replace the timing chain and the oil pump.
ok, what chain and pump to get? i want a bolt in deal, no modifying this or that to make **** fit.
seems like i remember someone mentioning the LS6 oil pump from a Z06 vette, will that work and is it a better piece?
ill be getting all the valvetrain from Comp...might just get their timing set.
would like to get the parts ordered tomorrow, thanks fellas. CHIP

whats an LS6 pump gonna cost me from the dealership? im assuming thats the only place i can get one?
if i get the LS2 chain, do they use the same gears?
its usually the chain that stretches giving you the slack and the gears are normally fine. im thinking just change the chain itself.
has anyone reused their original crankshaft bolt?? isnt it a torque to yield bolt? CHIP

Correct me if I'm wrong but I have never recalled anyone breaking a timing chain so why not use the stock one? The crank bolt should be replaced cause it is torque to yield, however keep the stock one to draw the pulley on to the crank, then put the new one in and torque it.

ruffrider.....its got a lot of miles on it (112k) so the timing chain is most likely pretty sloppy. the chain stretches, throwing the cam timing off slightly. CHIP

The stock chain has been known to hold a good amount of power, yes. But if your doing a cam swap and find your chain to have some slack, go ahead and replace it now. Like mentioned above. Shoot for an LS2 chain and an LS6 oil pump. Id hit up Scoggin Dickey for both. Chain was $28 and the pump was $75.
