Default ok no more 6.0 for me. need a new cam for the 5.3 (big tex, anyone else)

with the rasing gas prices i not going to do the 6.0 swap anymore.. it sucks but i cant afford the gas. but anyways my go fast parts are going into the 5.3. i have a custom ground cam from comp .218/.218 .563/.563 114lsa i am thinking this will be way to big for my 5.3. is this true? i dont really want to give up to much lowend because i do tow 2 quads and 2 snowmobiles. what cam would be good for me. i do however plan on either getting my trailblazer stall restalled or get a 3000 stall, once my trans blows. do you think a 214/214 or 216/216 might be a good cam for a 5.3, 3.73's?

I hear ya on the gas bullshit. Im thinking twice about doing my swap. Why not a 212/218 high or low lift?? Dont really need alot of stall for that. A 3K would compliment it very well though.

i hate to say it, but i am thinking about taking off the blower and putting it back to a stock tune so i can run 87 again, this crap of spending $50.00 plus a tank for something that comes out of the ground is nuts.

i say go with the 212-218 or the 216-220 comp cams. i ran the 216-220. yes it will loose a tiny bit dwon low but not much. and i was getting 18 mpg on the highway with it. that was with a good tune. i have mine set up to run either fuel.

Funny you should ask me, thats the exact cam Ive been running in my 6L LQ9. I can say for a fact that its gotten a little weaker in the 1500 rpm range under loads. From 2000 rpms on, its fine and pulls well until 6300. With my little 2600 yank, its just right for a heavy 6L truck. That same cam in a 5.3 would lose more torque and pull to higher rpms. I'd be tempted to go with a 212/214 114 +0 comp XE high lift, or something similar in a 5.3. Bring it down just a bit more, to say a 208/210 115 XE high lift and youd have great idle and better gas mileage.

I agree.
I also believe you will have a stronger running truck with a mild 6.0 than a 3K stall large cammed 5.3.The 6.0 I believe would get mileage in a xcab 4x4

your the one that sold me in on that cam for the 6.0..

when i pull they trailers its mostly on the highways (2100-2300Rpms) so i just want something that wont really be a dog in that range.

the truck is still going to be my race truck, so i want somthing that is going to make some great power. those cams seem like they would be more of a torque cam.
