Thanks for the suggestion guys...No autozone in Canada. We have Canadian tire which is an automotive/hardware store bigger than Wal-mart and have about 5 of these stores within a 15km radius. They will always have what you're looking for but not with the best warranties or prices. Many suppliers with big warehouses who sell for cheap though.

I got the AC/delco unit with a lifetime warranty for 210$ total from a supplier.

The Delco one that you got sounds like the best bang for the buck scenario for you, even with AutoZone's lifetime warranty, I wouldn't want to have the inconvenience of going there every Saturday to get a new alternator, not to mention possibly discharging the battery past the point of no return and having to replace that.

Sounds almost worth it to have the shop replace the alternator for the lifetime warranty...if they're just doing a straight R&R and you have a good rep with them the labor shouldn't be too bad.
