ordering my cam tomorrow
ive searched a ton but am looking for any last minute tips/reccomendations before i order tomorrow. almost positive im going with the tsp224r on 114. truck is in sig, stock 3.23 gears plan on swapping to 3.73/3.90/4.10 next month. not sure which ratio yet. future plans include fast 102 and mild heads and maybe a small shot(75). eventually a 6.0 if the motor goes. please chime in with pros/cons, likes/dislikes, or reccomendations on my selection and build

i really want to pull the trigger and get the 4.10s but im a little scared. i drive my truck to illinois about 2x a yr and im worried about spinning the high rpms for long periods of time on the highway. especially in 80mph zones when i usually set the cruise at 85. thats why i was origninally thinking 3.73-3.90. half my daily driving in mixed with city so i would actually enjoy the 4.10s then i think. they would be great at the track also. its just the long trips i worry about. thoughts/opinions please?

You'll see a significant loss in highway gas mileage from the 3.23s, but there should be no concern about running the engine at 2000+ RPMs for extended periods of time. You gotta remember, GM sends out plenty of vehicles with 4.10s from the factory. And I know those with 4l80e's are turning well over 2000 rpms on the highway.

I don't see why so many folks are afraid of turning upwards of 2k rpm on highway trips. It's not like the engine cares. Hell, before the 6-spd, I'd be turning close to 2500 rpm just cruising at 80mph on the highway. And that's with 30" tires, .73 OD in the 5-spd, and 3.73 gears in back. No biggie at all..
