P1153 after a mod
I recently gutted my cats because they were way clogged. After I put the pipe back on my truck idles like crap and is consistently throwing a P1153 code. I know what the code means. I just don't see how removing the cats would cause that problem. It runs good after I reset the code until the drive cycle is complete. Then it go's back to the bad idle and poor mileage. Aside from putting new cats back on and swapping out the sensor what else can I do to correct the issue? Thanx.

I have those codes(P1133 and P1153) in my truck after installing my long tube headers. Those codes are associated with the front o2 sensors. Sometimes it's due to them not heating up enough after opening up the exhaust. I just deleted mine and no negative impact on my idle or mpg my truck.

Gutting your cats will let heat escape faster. These codes almost always show up on a new header install. If they are good headers that get rid of heat.
Come on 02sierraz71_5.3, I know you know bank 2 is the passenger side...bank 1 is the driver side. Sensor one is the front...pre-cat sensor. You been drinking this morning? The rear o2's don't effect drivability...just reports that the cats are working or not.
