Hey Parish...you still have that knocking noise in you 6.0 when cold at 1/2 throttle?? I dug up your old post about it. Since mine seems to be doing the same thing I thought I would see if yours has gotten any worse or not.

yep still got it, it is way worse when the truck is really cold, like siting outside and 15deg out. over all i would say it is no worse than when i first fired the motor and i have ran at least 50lb's worth of nitrous thru it.

when i was talking to seth at cmotorsports about the turbo set up i told him i didn't know how long my motor would last once i start pushing it with tht rod knock and he told me his truck only has 50k on it and it has a rod knock also, he is very confident it is a rod knock too.

he also said the turbo shouldn't put any extra stress on the rods and wont likely speed it's death. he didn't seem worried and plans on pushing his stock motor hard.

I'd feel much better about it if I knew what it was. It sounds like ragged **** when it's cold. I'm probably going to drop my oil pan again this weekend and take a look up in the cylinders from below and check the rod bearings.

Have you thought about pulling the heads?

I will say it's more likely piston knock/slap when cold.A rod would make more noise when hot and the oil is thin.

I have, but that will be a last resort. Pulling the pan is alot easier and I may be able to tell something from looking up in the cylinders from underneath. I have access to a borescope and may use it to look at the top of the pistons. I really dont want to pull the heads unless I have to.

i am no motor expert and admit it could be "piston slap", i have heard rod noises in a small block chevy and that is exactly what this sounds like. something that gives me some reason to believe the rod theory is that Seth is sure his is rod knock.
