Will I hurt anything if I unplug the vacuum side of the PCV system from the intake manifold? I want to cap off the fitting on the manifold and see if that gets rid of my oil burning problem.

*Theoretically*, there might be an issue where too much crank pressure builds up, causing blowby...whether it be through the seals or rings...if you were to do it, I'd recommend putting a breather in it's place, and maybe even on the other side. Also, the PCM is supposed to be tuned with the controlled vacuum leak of the PCV system taken into consideration, so I'm not sure what affect that will have.

How about trying an oil catch can instead?

It tends to burn oil most when left idling for a few minutes, so I probably won't drive around with it, just let it sit and idle for maybe 10 minutes. I have an LS6 valley cover on order but it's going to be a couple weeks till I get it, I'm trying to see if that will fix the problem.

I don't think that letting it idle for a few minutes with the PCV port plugged will hurt anything then...just don't plug the valve cover end, let it breathe.

i've seen some bad things happen with a pinched blow by tube on diesel applications

I installed a compressor air/ water seperator in my PCV line. Wanted to test before commiting to a catch can. This is after 3/4 tank of gas.

I get about a tablespoon or two out of my catch can every 1k...I had the same homemade set-up that's pictured above, and it filled to that point very quickly, then started sucking past the filter. Since then I've been using an AMW catch can.

It's about a teaspoon, maybe a tablespoon. It really slowed down after that initial catch. I installed a check valve at the same time. I don't get NEAR that much now.
I probably need to check it though.

I did this on my 03'. After putting in two different engines (LS1 & LQ9) I had oil consumption problems and tracked it down to the PCV system sucking oil into the manifold.
I ended up putting a Metco breather on the oil filler cap and a cheap AutoZone breather on the driverside valve cover. Then I just plugged off the rest of the PCV lines on the manifold and passenger side valve cover.
It worked great except you get a slight oil smell inside the truck due to the oil vapors being released throught the breathers in the engine bay.
