People that have a 3000 stall come in
I just installed the Midwest 3000 converter, and the the converter will flash pretty close to 4000 RPMs . Brake stalling is only about 26-2800, but between shifts there is a tremendous diff. What are your 3000 converters flashing to?

mine 3000yank flashes to around 4200, here is a pic, it is hard to read the scale but you can see it. what do you mean there is a tremendas diference between shifts?

woa, after looking at that pic it looks more like it flashes to 4700 that is with a 35shot, without the shot i think it is around 4200

When I say there is a big diff between shifts, I mean that the rpm's stay above 4000 when it shifts. My other converter would drop to around 3000. I actually like the other converter better, it would react to partial throttle better.

Re: People that have a 3000 stall come in
I bought a Midwest 3000 converter last year. I could foot brake it over 3000 and it flashed way up there. It was way too loose and I didn't like it at all. I knew I was going to pull it out after 5 minutes of driving it. It wouldn't lock up properly on the freeway. I was scared of getting another converter after running this one. Finally decided on a Yank after all the good things I've heard about them and I made the right choice. My Yank 3000 is pretty tame compared to the midwest. Its just right for my tastes. N/A, it probably doesn't flash much more than 3000. I haven't tried max footbrake yet, but I'd say its in the mid 2000s.
My opinion: I will never run another midwest and the extra $$$ for the Yank is definitely worth it.

I have a good friend with a Midwest 3000 in his WS6 and it is loose and has really high shift extension. He is wanting a bigger converter and asked me if I wanted his and I said thanks but no thanks. I am going with a Yank as well.

Re: People that have a 3000 stall come in
Some of you guys are confusing converter flash stall with shift extension. The maximum stall a converter will take is with the throttle all the way to the floor and the tires not spinning. Sometimes if you jab the throttle from a dead stop, the centrifical mass of the converter might make it flash a little above its rated stall speed, but it will only be 100-200 rpms.
After the trans shifts from a lower gear to a higher gear (like a 1-2 shift), the converter will extend the rpm range over what the stock converter will. This is called shift extension and it's always several hundred rpms above stall speed. Larger diameter converters like my 278mm Yank TT 3000 stalls at 3000, but only has about 3500 rpms in shift extension. A Vig 2800 might stall 3000 behind a 5.3, but its smaller 245mm size will give it shift extension in the 4000-4200 range.

Re: People that have a 3000 stall come in
According to recent autotap runs taken at the track, when I stomp it from a dead idle it goes to 2850-3000 with no tire spin. This is with a whippled 6 liter-it would probably be a lot tighter without the blower. Where did you buy it and did they take down all your info-they had to have my dyno numbers, gear ratio, race weight, etc. I couldn't be happier with mine and that it unusual-I normally get the crap that don't work right. I am sorry to hear yours isn't working right.
