Couple more hours and im off work to go get the truck. cant wait!

i was doing a little reading last night and found a couple threads on truck cams. say if i wanted the most low end grunt i could get out of 293 cubes, how do you all suppose a cam will help?

couple that i found last night while reading up;
1 -"Old Man Cam" - 214/220 .600/.523 115 (copy from there website)

2- comp cam 259 206/212/.515/.522 112lsa

3 - GM ls6 cam /204/218/..551/.547 117.5lsa

is it just me or does it seem a little half assed backwards to put a cam meant for an ls6 race car motor into a truck with a 4.8? how does that work, wouldn't it be even crazy-er in the small motor?

Speaking from experience, if you want the best bang for the buck, by a small diameter (9.5) converter first with a stall rpm of 3200+.... That was my last mod, if I had to do it over again it would have been the first...

3200+? aint the stock one like 1800 or so?

a buddy of mine owns a f-body ls1 car and he's always talkin about high stall converters for the track. this truck o mine aint going to be any track queen that for sure. i might not be a city folk up on the newest trends but that just dont make sense to me. care to explain?

Well the 4.8 is extemely lacking in low end TQ, getting off the line or putting around at low speeds is freaking ridiculus.... The converter helps keep the truck in the powerband... The reason for the higher stall than on a noromal vehicle (camaro ls1, truck 5.3, etc) is because the 4.8 does not make any tq so you have to go with a higher stall torque converter to get it to go... Do a search on the Torque converters and it will explain it more....

If that truck in your picture there is yours then i get where your coming from at least cuz mine looks the same way, just pewter and sport box. with the changes you got listed there seems like it would be a quick truck ya got yourself into.

if the 4.8 lacks so much in torque what would be best way instead to give it back some tq rather than just rev it higher with a new trans converter? wouldnt that be the job of the cam swap to make some lower torque? i dont care for reving this thing to high hell, in fact ill keep the stock govner and be happy.

im just looking for ya know, comfortble daily driver is all. i been told up and down all the time these new v8s from Chevy are gettin better gas mpg than my old 4.3 v6 pig so im kinda excited to get into a new truck

any other ways to give the 4.8 some torque back? i know it aint a very big motor but i was happy with the v6 so if its anything like that just easy-er on the mpg im happy.

Yep that truck is mine, except it is not on 20's anymore... I have done about every mod you can do to my truck, and i personally tuned it.... Like i said if you want the most noticeable performance mod the torque converter and gears were it... Just cause you have a higher stall TC doesn't mean you rev it higher... If you want to add one of those small cams you listed i am sure you will notice some gain, whether it will be worth it to you, i dunno.... The problem with the 4.8 is that it does not respond to modifications like the larger cube motors do... Just my .02

Zo6 cam is a great cam for these trucks, very divable and makes good power.
the thing with most cams is it moves the power band higher in the rpms, the cams your looking at wont move it up too much.

stalls are the way to go, i cant wait to get mine, im getting one before a cam.
Ive seen it over and over, a higher stall is always at the top of the overall favorite mod list.

It will wake the truck up and keep you in the power band
