are you guys all 2wd? my 5.3 4wd (in 2wd mode) wont get better then 15-15.5mpg, alot of highway driving but some city.

has a bed cover, but maybe 200-250lb's worth of tools and such.and ive started to tune it some for 89 octane. could possibly use a little more timing on the highway, but mileage sucks so far.

it is cold up here though, we usually loose 2mpg in the winter. e fans to come soon hopefully.

You should get better mileage in the cold.
Whats the terrain like, is it flat? or really hilly?
do you have stock rims? what size?

Oh and Welcome to the site!

That's just my opinion based on what you've said here. Hope this helps!
I agree...if fuel economy is a major concern, I'd hold off on the tq converter for now, it may effect your mileage numbers around town. I'd definitely go for custom tune right off the bat

From what you've said, I'd think that a cam like mine (in sig) would work well for your needs. You'll notice a power increase throughout the rpm band and fuel economy shouldn't suffer, it may actually increase.

They may use oxygenated gas in the winter where he lives, it has an unfortunate negative effect on fuel economy.

sorry been gone a little while, had a wedding to attend last night and im still feeling the effects of the afterparty today.

budhayes3, with my month payments lowered than i thought theyd be at the first of this thread, ive got a little spendin money extra so i want to do a cam swap and tune right off the bat. you said a cam like in your truck would work well..; you mean that "206/212 .515/.520 114" ya got in your quote at the bottom? thats the best bit of info ive heard all day from this forum specialy since its a close cam to what Jake recomended for me.

are we not allowd to talk about custom grinds on this site? ive asked a couple times now what yall think about that custom cam grind an mums the word lately. if we cant talk bout them im sorry, i didnt know.

Yessir, I was referring to 206/212 .515/.520 114, which actually is a custom grind since the off the shelf cam came on a 112 at the time. You can talk about custom grinds all you want, I guess that nobody has any input about that though.

At the time, Comp recommended that I get the cam ground on a 114 to reduce the possibility of the PCM picking up false misfires, but tuning has come a long way since I bought my cam. Comp has 2 versions that are similar to my cam, one on a 112, and one on a 115. The 112 will produce torque sooner and be more peaky, as well as idle a little choppier, while a 114 or 115 will idle smoother and have a broader torque curve.

oh yes. Living in MN all gas stations here are oxygenated and they have been for years. i forget that not all gas stations are 10% ethenol like they are here. non oxy stations are few and far between here.

i suppose on non oxy i would be seeing 17 or so. even though we use oxygenated gas all year, the gas is even worse in the winter and we drop 2 or so when it gets cold.

thanks for the welcome~ ive been lurking for a little while

My Tahoe with 33" mud tires does better than that. Yes it has more displacement, but weighs 1000 lbs more.
