Maybe I should run it with no oil in it to see if the noise goes away! J/K...(then I'd definitely have an excuse to go 6.0)
Welll, I was thinking it could be the oil, but I only put 5 1/2 qts. in it last oil change and it's reading fine on the stick. The noise doesn't sound related to valvetrain to me. This evening I'll do some listening as I rev it slowly. I can't remember if it makes that noise above idle.

I have almost 13k and it's quiet so far. I'll sell or trade it in if it starts doing it. Someone told me that if it doesn't do it when it is new then it never will.

My 5.3L started slapping at 50000kms, it would last for 30 secs in the winter. Now my 03 6.0l started doing it little at 20000kms, it only lasts for 10 secs. The knocking doesn't bug me as much as the belt squeak I have on a cold start.

A guy at work has a 1998 with a 4.3L that sounds like a diesel in the winter, but it does go away after a min or two.

I'm pretty sure the engine makes the noise when revved, It's hard to hear it, but I think I slightly can. But it's definitely louder when ideling. I don't know, as long as it keeps running great I won't worry about it.

Hello everyone. My engine has been making a noise every sense I bought it. I have had it for 5 years and it has 84,000 miles on it. It still run like new.

I had it on my corvette, changed to a low pressure oil filter and do not have it any more. (K&N, wix, etc.) I am going to try it on the truck next oil change--next week.

It's the plating on the pistons that wears off - GM has had this problem since 1987 with the 2.8L MPFI cars - and the 3.1L...and the 5.7..and now the LS1 series....someday they will get it done right. It has 0 effect on performance.

that's funny. when i got mine, it had the dino oil in it and it was loud as fark. since i put mobile 1 in it i can't hear it at all unless i put it in drive. and even then it goes away after about 20 seconds. i always let it sit and run for about 30 seconds anyway before i take off though.
