The reason they run warranty work off is JP Power keeps count of all the stuff that happened. They will report that if someone asks too. To much warranty stuff raises an eyebrow or 2.

Tiburon (#9 reply) put two links about it. I was talking to a GM guy at the Motorplex yesterday about different things...one was the slap noise and I mentioned I had a 04 4.8. He said it was mostly a 5.3 problem and that the newer pistons have a teflon coating to help with it. The pistons have short skirts and sometimes contact the cyl. walls on the affected engines.

What Slamed has must've been a defective engine.

It sounds to me like a rod bearing problem, bad machining, bad parts, bearing clearance, debris in the motor. It diffenently didn't have anything to do with piston slap.

I don't think this issue was a piston slap problem. It sounds like something a whole lot more to do with a lower engine problem.

I thinks its 1 of 2 possible problems, either is oil pump gave out or there was some debri in the oil galleries, or this is bullshit. I got picture proof of my engine with 2 thrown rods, the rods fell into peices rather than shove out of the block. Id like to see a pic of 3 rods hangin out of the motor. is that even possible with the crank being on on different upstrokes and down strokes per cylinder? which cylinders blew?
no offence to anyone, im just in a bad mood today cuz im sick.

ps. if its true, and you could get a pic, id be proud to say i blew that motor. its something to tell the grandchildren bout someday.
