I bought my 00 Z-71 used with 23,500 miles. An older guy had it, and when I took it for a test drive it was already warm (he met me in a parking lot) It was in great shape mechanically and apperance wise, so I bought it. I remember the first time I started it up cold (Jan) and heard the ticking. I was like WTF!!! I took it to the dealership and they said it was a characteristic of these engines Then a friend of mine had a 99 and a 00 and they both did the same thing. No converters, true duals with a H pipe, and 2 40 series Flowmasters helps hide the sound. If someone is riding with me and I don't want them to hear it, I just turn the radio up when I start it. Funny thing is, it doesn't always do it. Two years later and 45,xxx on the clock running Mobil 1 5w30, she doesn't use a drop of oil. So I don't worry about it, but it does suck when someone walks in front of your truck at Wal-Mart when you start it up and it does that ****.
