thats exactly what my old engine sounded like when i spun a bearing.. thats what it sounds like to me. If you don't run it anymore and tear it down there is a chance you might be able to repair it for not to much. Also since there was water in the coolant that could have been the cause of the bearing failure. The more you drive the bigger the bill will get most likely, but it looks like you might be shopping for a 6.0 so it wouldn't make much difference in that case

so a head gasket leak would most likely be the cause of the problem? i guess his oil pressure was a little low too, would the head gasket cause that too?
now PORN_1 just has to convince his dad that it is time for a 6.0, and not to repair the 5.3.

This is the cheapest I've seen a LQ9 for, plus you get a transmission.

Where does the noise sould like under the truck???
If it is a bearing you can disconnect each cylinder injector wire and see it the noise goes away.
I seen this noise in loose crank flexplate bolts or a cracked flexplate too.

Well I don't know how much I would trust that e-bay ad to be true. That tranny came out of a 2wd something. Which makes you wonder if the motor really has 5000 miles on it. I have a Brand New 6.0 long block that I bought to put in my 99 T/A but changed my mind. It has 0 miles and comes complete with new sensors. If your interested, then drop me a PM and maybe we can work something out.

I had a noise just like that in my SBC 350. It was a wrist pin at first then it eventually broke the piston and cracked the block. When I drained the oil it sounds like what you described. Milky looking oil.
