Thanks Parish8 I was indeed looking at the Gross Vehicle Weight and not actual.
The 6.0 is an iron block right? Guess I'll be adding some weight on the nose.

I wouldnt go NA in this case, With the price of a 6.0 around 2,000 for a good used one. The price of the cam, machineing of the block, head work and install you could for another 1500 or so go with the Detroit Speedworks turbo kit and easily run 13's or the kit I perfer C Motorsports turbo kit. Watch the video of the Tahoe on the Detroit Speedworks site, ran a 14 flat! Low boost and good fuel economy, and lots of power out of a 5.3, but in both cases you would still have to upgrade the trans. Just my .02 though.
For thought 6.0 $2000, complete cam kit 800, long tubes 800-1300, tuning 500, plus machineing almost 4100 without installing, or machineing anything I would rather go turbo on a new vechile and be done with it.

Word to that! With all the tuning and software available these days for these EFI engines, there is just no compromise IMO.
... go with Forced induction and/or spray.
but if you are not planning on spending this much to get in the 13's(good luck), get a 3000+ stall convertor and a cam for starters. Loose all the weight you can, get a good tune and some slicks and you should be there.

The recipe
Going turbo is by far the best way to go, but lets face it, its also the MOST expensive. Hey I have both myself and have gone through the turbo $ deal. This guy isnt looking to spend upwards of $5000 to get the job done I dont believe. Hey I could be wrong!! anyway if you have that kind of coin or close to it, I would probably go STS. Otherwise there is NO better bang for the buck then the juice! It will get you were you want to be for approx $600 (new kit) used can sometimes be had for the $350 range. Its all about the frog skins my friend, and how many you have to allocate to this project!

To anyone saying forced induction will be better for a daily driver put down the crack pipe.
A STOCK LQ9 6.0L or even one with a very small cam can get the job done for sebcat. His goals aren't that loafty. If any forced induction setup is cheaper or more reliable than that I'd like to know. The stall in his truck would probably react nicely to the extra torque from the 6.0L.
Of course like Flipper said N2O is the cheapest way to go by far but, it's still not more reliable than a stock 6.0L.
