Pulleys
When installing a set of pulleys on a 4.8L with an automatic, will you damage anything in the transmission with it in park? What I'm saying is by applying torque to the crank shaft to get that damn bolt off will it strip gears or anything like that?
Thanks

Re: Pulleys
That ain't gonna work. You have to physically stop the flexplate from turning because the converter will just spin with the truck in park.
It's the same thing as having the truck idling while in park. The converter is not a solid link between the engine and trans.
What I've done in the past is drop the starter and jam a big(thick) screwdriver thru one of the flexplate holes. Then you can torque that bolt to whatever you want. I hope you have a big torque wrench and about a two foot handle exstension.
There is also a special flexplate wrench that you can get to keep it from moving. You can probably get it at any auto parts store that rents tools.
Good luck

Re: Pulleys
You can use a chain wrench to keep the factory pulley from turning while loosening the crank bolt. Another option is the special factory GM tool they sell that bolts in where the starter goes. You remove the starter and screw this tool in its' place. It has teeth machined into it to keep the flywheel from turning while you unscrew the bolt. You might want to buy a longer than stock bolt. The stock bolt is 16 X 2 X 103. I bought a 120 mm bolt. The extra length gives you a better bite to help get the ASP pulley started on the crankshaft instead of having to use a crank pulley pusher tool.
