you will need
a spring tool,
crank pulley puller,
2 gal of the NON PREMIX orange dexcool
new crank bolt

Do a search for "crane valve spring tool"

I bought a tool a guy on ls1tech makes for like $30 bucks. worked great, and is much cheaper than the $100+ tool from crane, although not as pretty i suppose.

I should be able to get a manual for pretty much any 5.3 to do this right? Any thing I need to look out for or do first?

Nope, you can do it on the truck. The rear drivers side can be a little tricky, but you can do it.
