Default Question 4 Electric Fan owners

My fans are turned on by the pcm. Just wondering what temp you guys would recommend turning them on and off in LS1 Edit? I just don't want them running all the time yet I want to keep my truck in a good operating temperature range.
What do you guys have for your temp settings? I have a 160 degree thermostat.
Looking for you opinions.

If you are running 160 (which I would not, I would go no lower than a 180) with electric fans and you hope to keep it at that temp those fans are going to have to run a awfull lot because of the decreased heat transfer abilty of the radiator at lower core temps. At 90 degrees free air temp, a 160 vs a 190 system will have 30 to 40% less heat/BTU disapation capacity at 160 water temp. Throw in a A/C condensor which preheats the air before the radiator and the effecency get even worse for the 160 system. This is simple physics.

So what do you recommend me setting my on/off temps to? How does 195 on/ 180 off sound?

I would say 170 tops with your setup as what is the point of a 160 stat if you let it heat to 180 or 190 before fans kick in? If you want the fan temps higher, use a 180 stat and 190 fan temps for more stable engine temps

i am running a 160* stat..with flex-a-lite 282's...settings are on @ 185 and off at 179...that is just for one fan..the other is set to the A/C, so when i turn that one it goes up to 100% for the other fan...

never had a problem keeping the truck right at 180...

So again way run a 180 temp with a 160 stat? My 2000 K3500 runs 190 to 195 with stock stat and has never even gotten over 200 yet (temp has been verified by a seperate probe) If I wanted to run 180 or so, I would use a 180 stat not a 160. 160's can really suck on a cold winter day too on heater output! Also bear in mind the with a lower temp you can reduce economy because of lost energy in the form of heat lost through block walls (this is one of the reasons they use 190 to 200 degree stats in some engines) and furthermore cooler temps lead to more mositure in oil in cold climates from condensation due to reduced boil off rate of it in lower temps

i have used the 180 and 160, they both run the same temps during city traffic with the clutch fan, on the highway the 160 would come down in temp more than the 180, but even with the 180 the engine would never go below 195 highway.

with my e-fans now i set them to 200 on 185 off, of course ac is always on so they always run in summer temps, winter maybe different.

I guess you need a 4 core radiator like my truck came with as my temps gauge never move more than a needle with even stuck in traffic at 90 plus outside with A/C on (My A/C is always on during warmer months too as I never drive with windows down)
